Rate Limit Exceeded
On Saturday, a significant outage affected Twitter, leading to numerous users reporting issues with the social media platform. Hashtags such as “TwitterDown” and “Rate Limit Exceeded” emerged as people shared their experiences.
The disruption began around 8 a.m. EST and persisted throughout the afternoon, as indicated by reports on DownDetector. By 1 p.m., there were over 7,000 outage reports concerning the website.
Users encountered various problems, including difficulties in retrieving tweets and receiving the error message “Sorry, you are rate limited. Please wait a few moments then try again.”
Elon Musk, who assumed control of Twitter in 2022, tweeted at around 1 p.m. regarding post reading limits that were implemented temporarily to address issues of data scraping and system manipulation. He stated that verified accounts were limited to reading 6,000 posts per day, unverified accounts to 600 posts per day, and new unverified accounts to 300 posts per day.
Users took the opportunity to directly tweet Musk, expressing their concerns about the Twitter outage, with comments like “Hey Elon, my Twitter isn’t working” and questioning the imposition of limits on reading tweets.
