Highly anticipated re-recorded album, Taylor Swift unveiled ‘Speak Now (Taylor’s Version),’ marking the latest step in her journey to reclaim ownership of her music. The singer-songwriter shared her meticulous process of crafting the album’s tracklist and the difficulty of choosing the songs that would make the final cut. As a result, she included six additional tracks from the vault, which were recorded when she was 32 years old. The album evoked a sense of nostalgia and gratitude for Swift as she revisited the memories associated with its creation. She expressed her gratitude to her fans for their unwavering support and for enabling her to reclaim her artistic work.

Swift initially announced the re-recording of her 2010 album during her Eras Tour in Nashville, emphasizing that “Speak Now” was entirely self-written and represented a period of growth, vulnerability, and introspection in her life. She highlighted the album’s themes of growing up, making mistakes, and ultimately finding her voice. With the addition of six extra songs from the vault, Swift eagerly anticipated celebrating “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” with her dedicated fanbase.

“Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” follows the successful releases of “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” and “Red (Taylor’s Version)” earlier this year. Swift embarked on the journey of re-recording her songbook in 2019 as a means to regain control of her masters. While she has already released her re-recorded versions of “Taylor Swift,” “1989,” and “Reputation” albums, there are still more to come.

The original “Speak Now” album featured notable singles such as “Mine,” “Mean,” “Back to December,” and “Ours.” In addition to the original tracklist, “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” includes songs from the vault, featuring collaborations with Fall Out Boy and Paramore. Paramore has also been announced as the opening act for the European leg of Swift’s Eras Tour.

Notably, Swift made a lyrical change in her song “Better Than Revenge (Taylor’s Version)” in response to controversy surrounding the original lyric, which was criticized for slut-shaming. The re-recorded version now features a modified lyric that conveys a different message while maintaining the essence of the song.

The original “Speak Now” album received critical acclaim and was nominated for Best Country Album at the Grammy Awards. Swift took home the awards for Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song for the track “Mean.”

Ahead of the album’s release, Swift encouraged her fans to spread kindness instead of engaging in online negativity, particularly regarding the song “Dear John,” which has long been speculated to be about her relationship with John Mayer. She urged her supporters to focus on positivity and to celebrate the music.

With “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version),” Taylor Swift continues to reclaim her musical legacy while offering fans an opportunity to rediscover and celebrate her past work. The release of this re-recorded album signifies another milestone in her journey towards artistic freedom and ownership.
